    Information about the Department –

    The Agriculture Department under the Sangli Zilla Parishad is responsible for providing comprehensive agricultural services to farmers. The primary responsibilities of the department include planning for agricultural development, implementing Z. P. schemes, and providing technical assistance to farmers. The department actively works to educate farmers on modern farming techniques, water management, crop planning, organic farming, and related training. Sangli district is a major agricultural district in Maharashtra, encompassing both irrigated (Baghayat) and rainfed (Jirayat) farming. The total agricultural area in Sangli district is approximately 4.5 lakh hectares, with irrigated land covering about 1.5 lakh hectares (33% of the total agricultural area) and rainfed land covering about 3.0 lakh hectares (67% of the total agricultural area). The department operates through 11 agricultural offices at the district and taluka levels, providing guidance and services to farmers through Agricultural Officers and Extension Officers.
