Khwaja Shamshoddin Mira Saheb Dargah, Miraj
The Dargah of Khwaja Shamshoddin Mira Saheb is a significant attraction in Miraj city, drawing thousands of Hindu and Muslim devotees. Hazarat Pir Khwaja Shamshoddin was from Kashgar, Turkey, and was deeply influenced by the principle that serving humanity is serving God. He began studying the Quran at an early age and arrived in India at the age of 18.
There are many legends associated with Khwaja Saheb. It is said that the ruler of Miraj, Shrimant Patwardhan, was a follower of Khwaja Saheb. According to a tale, a siege on Miraj Fort was lifted due to Khwaja Saheb’s blessings. The dargah was built in 1668 and stands on a 200×200-foot platform. The tomb of legendary musician Abdul Karim Khan is also located within the dargah premises, where his disciples commemorate his death anniversary with musical performances. During this time, renowned musicians from all over India perform for three to four days, making it a grand event for music lovers.
