- Administrative Structure On 2 October 1959, the Balwantrai Mehta Committee decentralised power to the central government.
- On 22 June 1960, the Vasantrao Naik Committee was formed.
- On 1 May 1962, the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Act 1961 was passed as per the recommendations of the Vasantrao Naik Committee. A three-tier system was implemented at the district level. Zilla Parishad was established at the district level, Panchayat Samiti at the taluka level and Gram Panchayat at the village level.
