ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Social Justice & Special Assistance Department (SJSA) of the Government of Maharashtra is dedicated to ensuring equal opportunities and social justice for underprivileged communities, such as Scheduled Castes, senior citizens, and other vulnerable groups. The department aims to provide these groups with equal opportunities in education, economy, and social security. It also implements various welfare schemes for the upliftment of Scheduled Castes (SC), senior citizens, the transgender community, and other marginalized sections of society. The department’s assistance includes education, training, skill development, employment generation, housing, and social welfare programs.
INTRODUCTION
The Social Welfare Department, Zilla Parishad, Sangli plays a significant role in implementing various social welfare schemes and programs within the state of Maharashtra. The department works to address social justice issues, particularly concerning Scheduled Castes, Tribes, and other vulnerable groups. Additionally, it focuses on the welfare of differently-abled individuals (Divyang), the protection of the elderly, and the support of destitute individuals.
VISION and MISSION
The vision is to promote the educational and economic welfare of Scheduled Castes and other vulnerable sections, such as senior citizens, transgender individuals, and destitute persons. The state aims to promote the educational and economic interests of these sections, ensuring their protection from social injustice and exploitation.
OBJECTIVES and FUNCTION
- Social Justice: To ensure social justice for Scheduled Castes, Tribals, backward classes, Divyangs, and other special groups.
- Welfare of Weaker Sections: To protect and develop the welfare of women, children, the destitute, and Divyang individuals.
- Social Inclusion: To integrate all social components into the mainstream, providing them with equal opportunities.
- Economic Empowerment: To implement skill development, employment, and entrepreneurship schemes to promote self-reliance.
- Education and Health: To develop education and health facilities for backward classes and weaker sections of society.
Major Functions of the Department:
- Implementation of the Plan: The implementation of social welfare schemes of the state and central government at the district level.
- Welfare of Divyang: Providing education, employment, rehabilitation, financial assistance, and aids for persons with disabilities.
- Protection of the Old and Destitute: Operating old age homes and destitute homes, along with pension schemes for the elderly and destitute persons.
- Public Awareness and Training: Raising awareness among various sections of society and organizing training programs for employees.
- Report and Inspection: Preparing reports on the implementation of schemes and conducting inspections and evaluations of their progress.
